To Date or not Date at Work

Everyone knows that its not a good idea to date anyone at work. So, don’t date at work. But, on the other hand almost 50% of married couples meet at work. Hmmm! Someone is dating at work. OK, if you are attracted to someone at work and decide to date them here are tips that will keep you on good terms with your co-workers and your boss.
Rule No. 1 – Don’t tell anyone you’re dating the guy in the other cubicle. No matter how much you want to talk about it – don’t. It will cause lots of problems.
Rule No. 2 – Don’t hang out at each others desk making small talk. Bosses don’t like that and your co-workers will eventually become jealous. After they become jealous they will start making remarks behind your back that you aren’t doing your work because you’re to busy talking to you-know-who. It’s true . . . they will.
Rule No. 3 – If someone gets suspicious and asks if you are dating, there is only one thing to do. Act surprised that they would think that and ask them why they ask. Insist that you aren’t dating, because they don’t know for sure.
Rule No. 4 – Don’t stay at company happy hour sessions more than 1 hour. If you have a couple of Margarita’s and start cozying up, then your co-workers will think you’re dating or planning a quickie. Neither is good for your career. Remember office get togethers are for networking and teambuilding, not sex.
Rule No. 5 – If HR comes to talk to you about office dating and asks you to sign a Love Contract. Refer to Rule No. 3. Act surprised and indignant and ask why they would think you are dating someone at the office. Do not under any circumstance succumb to the desire to come clean and admit it. You’re commiting corporate suicide.
What if you think this person is Mr. Right? And what if you think you may get married? That’s fine! Congratulations! But, still don’t tell HR. You will eventually end up leaving the company if you get serious, but at least you can leave on your own terms.
